Gísli S. Brynjólfsson is the Director of Global Marketing at Icelandair, where he leads the airline’s global brand, marketing strategy and campaign development across international markets. With more than 25 years of experience in advertising, branding and marketing, he has worked across both agency and client side, combining strategic brand thinking with a strong belief in creative effectiveness.
Before joining Icelandair, Gísli spent around 15 years at Hvíta húsið, one of Iceland’s leading advertising agencies, where he served as Managing Director and worked as a branding and strategy consultant for a wide range of local and international brands. His background spans brand transformation, integrated campaigns, market positioning and commercial communications.
At Icelandair, Gísli has played a key role in reshaping the airline’s marketing approach, moving from a more performance-led focus toward a stronger storytelling and brand-led platform rooted in the “Spirit of Iceland.” His latest campaign, “Really Bad Photographer Wanted,” invited people around the world to prove that Iceland is so extraordinary that even a bad photographer can capture something spectacular, generating global participation, strong organic reach and significant PR value.
Gísli is passionate about creativity that drives business results and believes the strongest work happens when strategy, emotion and commercial impact come together. He has previously served as a jury member for Euro Effie and Effie Ireland, as well as creative competitions in Iceland and Scandinavia, bringing an international perspective on effectiveness, creativity and measurable impac
